Lesson Placement Guidelines

Choosing the correct level helps swimmers get the most out of their swim lessons in Logan, Utah. Please review the placement guidelines to determine the best class for your child.

If you are unsure, you can take your child to a pool and ask them to demonstrate the required skills before registration. It is also common for swimmers to repeat a level to strengthen their skills and confidence.

If your child has taken lessons with me before, I already have a record of their previous level to help guide placement.

When deciding between two levels, it is usually best to choose the lower level so your child can fully develop the necessary skills.

Level 1

This beginner class focuses on basic water confidence and breathing skills. Children learn how to blow bubbles, put their face in the water, and become comfortable going underwater. Students will also practice basic floating skills with teacher assistance and begin moving more freely in the water.

Recommended age: 3 years and older.
Children who are 2½, toilet trained, and comfortable separating from parents may also participate.

Level 2

In this class, swimmers learn to float independently on both their front and back for at least five seconds. Students should already be comfortable putting their face in the water before registering.

This level focuses on improving water confidence, floating skills, and basic swim control.

Recommended age: 4 years and older.

Level 3

In Level 3, swimmers learn to glide across the pool for 17 feet without assistance or touching the bottom. This class introduces proper kicking techniques and underwater glides to improve swimming form and control.

Students will also begin practicing these skills in the deep end with teacher guidance.

Recommended: Children should be at least 5 years old and around 40 inches tall to manage the coordination required for this level.

Level 4

Level 4 focuses on proper breathing and body position for stronger swimming skills. Swimmers learn side glide techniques and breathing methods for the freestyle stroke.

The class gradually introduces arm movements and full freestyle coordination, helping students swim more confidently and independently in deeper water.

Levels 5–7 – Advanced Swim Skills

Levels 5–7 are designed for swimmers who can swim independently and confidently in the deep end. These classes focus on improving stroke technique and overall swimming endurance.

Swimmers may take these levels in any order. Lessons may also include treading water, diving skills, and flip turns for more advanced swimmers.

-Level 5: Focus on improving the freestyle stroke

-Level 6: Development of proper backstroke technique

-Level 7: Training and refinement of the breaststroke
